Where to start? Well, my name is Michelle and I'm 21 years old. I have been married to my gorgeous husband for a year now (woo!). I am currently pursuing my dream of being an Event Planner thanks to the support from Peter, my husband, and of course my amazing mother. I was born and raised in Miami and currently live in Orlando while my smarty pants Hubby attends UCF. I have a serious case of "I can make that!" which is slowly rubbing off on him as well. My mom always taught me that everything is more special when you make it yourself (or get it on sale!) and I have lived my newly started "adult" life in this manner.
My reason for creating this blog is to show the world that getting married young is something that still exists and that it is a beautiful and amazing adventure. Having gotten married at just 20 years old I'm sure that many people thought (and still think) that we were crazy but when you've found the person you know you're supposed to spend your life with why wait? Sure it's not been easy and if we were older we wouldn't struggle as much and everything would be easy peasy but where's the fun in that? And more importantly you don't grow together that way. There's something so beautiful about growing up together, you get to be there for the making of the person you love. You understand why they are the way they are because you were there when they went through the toughest times. Now, I'm not saying that everyone should get married young, not everyone can, what I'm saying is that it shouldn't be looked down on or considered any more crazy than getting married at any other age. Marriage is crazy and you have to be a little crazy to get married, you have to trust and believe that what you're feeling is real and will never fade but continue to grow and develop for the rest of your lives. Seriously, how crazy is that?!
Here's a few things about me personally:
- I am a huge geek, I love all things science fiction and fairy-tale . Most of my days after work consist of watching Doctor Who.
- I love British TV and French culture. Yes, I realize the irony.
- My favorite Batman movie will forever be Batman and Robin (1997). The Dark Knight series is better in almost every way but Batman and Robin is my favorite.
- I never cooked a single meal in my life until a month into my marriage. Seriously, everyone in my family was deeply concerned. I knew I'd be fine.
- I love lace and floral a little too much.
- Anything vintage is a treasure waiting to be brought into my life.
- My preferred method of transportation is my 50cc scooter, any chance to ride my scooter I take.
- I have the cutest cat in the whole world, Nibbler. You can follow his adventures on Instagram via the tag #theadventuresofnibblerthekitty
- I have the BEST friend in the world, she buys me things. But really, she's one of those friends who's more like family than actual family. We've been best friends for 5 years now and we've only agreed on maybe 4 things.
- I am named after the little known Beatles song "Michelle". It's the greatest. The Beatles are the greatest.
- I come from a family of musicians and singers, on both sides. I play guitar, the tiniest bit of piano, a little bass, but mostly I sing. My Hubby plays the bass just like my Dad (don't resist it, you're very likely to marry someone like your parents) and neither can sing. I have an uncle who's killer on the guitar and a cousin who's a concert pianist.
- I have a HUGE family. Every time I say this people ask "how many siblings do you have?" I have one. What I mean is, not only parents and siblings but cousins and uncles and my parents cousins and their kids (I call them cousins). We are dysfunctional most of the time but we have a love for each other that surpasses all the stupidity.
- I am Hispanic, loud and proud. I was born in the U.S. but I take my heritage seriously. My mom is Cuban-Dominican and my dad was born in Guatemala (filming location of Naboo in Star Wars Episode II!). I speak almost fluent Spanish.
- I truly believe that my life should be a TV show, it's that crazy. Hint hint ABC Family.
- Last and certainly not least, I am a life long Christian. My parents are Youth Pastors at my home church in Miami. My church family back home is my second family, many have known me since I was 4 years old and they are very dear to me. Only with the strength of Christ have I been able to get through my crazy life.
